A friend just sent me a birthday card with this painting on it --- I think my adoration is well known. it is:
"The Storm", 1880 by Pierre-Auguste Cot (French, 1837–1883). Oil on canvas. Commission of Catharine Lorillard Wolfe. Bequest to Metropolitan Museum of Art by Catharine Lorillard Wolfe, 1887.
It's home is the Met, though it has traveled the country in the last year as part of a "romantic paintings of the 19th century" exhibition. I missed it!
I just love these kids (though they need to learn how to dress for inclement weather).
